The People’s State of the Union
On Tuesday night, Donald Trump delivered the first State of the Union address of his second term amidst a whirlwind of scandal and controversy, ranging from his involvement with sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein to brutal immigration enforcement in Minnesota.
Congressional Democratic leadership demanded that their party continue to take the high road, telling its members that if they felt the need to be disruptive, that they shouldn’t attend at all.
As federal law enforcement helicopters circled overhead, several members of Congress, along with activists from MoveOn and other groups held the “People’s State of the Union” on the National Mall — an event addressing a nation in crisis held simultaneously with the President’s address.
